Concrete Child
My thesis is titled Concrete Child and it addresses urbanity from the perspective of the urban native, conveying the lived experience of the city. The project investigates urbanity by reflecting on both its materialities and its social components. It is a love song for, and homage to, the grimy beauty of the American city; covered in rust, paint chipped away, not perfect and partly derelict but full of life.
photographic investigation
This project places hand sewn garments in the contexts from which they were drawn, emphasizing the labor in the city, and the degradation that city dwellers experience from manmade spaces.
dirty hems and crusty logos
At the core of this project is the materiality of the city, with decay and reconstruction being used heavily. These garments are loved, beaten, branded and destroyed carefully.
